My wife, Marcie, and I were recently in the Colorado mountains. As we drove along the interstate, we noticed many rocky outcroppings along the sides of the road. It helped to pass the time to try to find the faces in the rocks.

Have you ever done that? How about on a partly cloudy day? Did you ever look at the clouds and see faces?

Of course, the faces on the mountain sides and in the clouds are not real. We see them because we imagine them. We look at rock-faces and will ourselves to see human-faces. We want to see a face and that is why we see it.

This is what some non-Christians accuse Christians of doing.... that we are creating God in places where he does not exist... because (they say) he doesn't exist. Just like we can make faces out of clouds, they say we make up God because we want Him badly enough. We, in effect, create God in the same way. It is the power of the human mind and imagination that is the instrument of creation. There is no God except for the one we create in our minds.

Really?

• Is it just my imagination that places a gazillion stars and galaxies in the night sky?
• Is it my powerful mind that creates 100,000 different types of moths and 10,000 different species of butterflies?
• Are the mountains and clouds that I use to imagine friendly faces upon created in my mind?
